Vinyl Windows

Why Choose Vinyl Windows?

Vinyl windows are windows that have frames made with polyvinyl chloride (commonly referred to as “PVC”). For those homeowners who don’t have to worry about protecting the historical authenticity of their property, vinyl windows can be an excellent choice for storm and replacement windows.

Vinyl windows are popular for a number of reasons, including:

  • PVC requires less care than wood (the occasional wipe down is all that’s needed—there’s no sanding, staining or repainting).
  • PVC doesn’t flake or pit like aluminum can.
  • Vinyl windows are exceptionally energy efficient, and they’re recyclable.
  • Vinyl windows come in a wide variety of colors and styles.
  • When it comes to total value, they can’t be beat in terms of variety and affordability.

For many homeowners, vinyl windows are a winner because they offer insulation and energy efficiency benefits that aluminum windows (and sometimes even wood) just can’t. For instance, vinyl windows have been shown to save some homeowners upwards of $500 a year on energy costs. That may not seem like much for one year, but add that over the lifetime of your windows (say 15 years), and that $500 savings turns into an impressive $7,500. Plus, vinyl windows come in a variety of colors and sizes, and they can be custom made to match the unique needs of just about any home.

Unfortunately, vinyl replacement windows aren’t right for everyone. If you have a home with high historical value, having vinyl windows installed could reduce the architectural authenticity of your property, which could affect your property values. They are also more vulnerable to warping in extreme heat. And, because they cannot be repainted, if your vinyl windows are damaged, they need to be replaced (unlike wood windows, which can be repaired and repainted).

Finally, vinyl windows do not add as much resale value as other types of replacement windows, which can be a concern if you’re planning on selling your home.

Types of Vinyl Windows

Vinyl windows can be used for just about any type of window, including garden windows, picture windows, egress windows, bay and bow windows, and more. Plus, vinyl windows come in a variety of colors and can be customized to fit non-standard shapes and sizes. Regardless of your home style or aesthetic, there’s probably a vinyl window style that’s right for you.
